Grinding with coated and bonded abrasives play a crucial role for the manufacturing process of skis: Edges and the whole sliding surface are finished with abrasives!
Let’s have a look!
The way to make ski is a process that uses heat and pressure to bound the components tegether.
First, cut the board to the proper size. And then, with cutting machine to cut into a preliminary outline of skis. Using epoxy as a binder, a piece of fiberglass cloth was glued to the wood. During this process, excess resin and air bubbles must be removed in order to make sure the board and the fiberglass cloth fit well. The surface layer of ski is a high strength plastic board. For decoration, people will print the color they like on the plastic board.
Then, compress the mold and heats it to 85 degrees Celsius. This actives the epoxy, hardening it in 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the ski. After that, people do a rough cut to trim off the excess. Then they sand all the edges until they are smooth. They run a gliding surface across a grinding stone.
